What is an SLO?




Student Learning Outcomes* (SLOs)

In this class, these are our SLOs:
1.  Communicate. Use English to say what you need to say so (..., para que, что́бы) other people will understand you—even if (即使, aun si, да́же е́сли) your grammar isn't perfect.  
2.  Learn and practice new vocabulary about everyday (日常的, cotidiana, повседневный) life, such as:
     a.  housing
     b.  health care: illness (, 疾病, enfermedad, боле́знь), parts of the body, making an appointment
     d.  school: phrases in class, saying you will be absent, using the library, asking where things are
     e.  accidents and emergencies:  9-1-1, fire, going to the emergency room
     f.   job interview questions
     g.  transportation: riding Muni and BART
     h.  personal description (描述, descripción, описание): She is tall. She has curly black hair. She is nice.
     i.   shopping: trying on and buying clothes, exchanging, returning
3.  Understand people when they speak about everyday life.
4.  Use correct grammar to write and talk about everyday life (e.g., how to ask questions and make negative sentences).
5.  Read and understand simple stories and information.
6.  Practice pronunciation by speaking and listening to others.
7.  Practice taking and leaving phone messages.
8.  Learn how to ask and say the meaning of words.
9.  Practice answering questions for the Level 4 Oral Exit (=Speaking Test).
